Our Story

Amber had a passion for designing at an early age; she writes: I was a dancer, loved art and acting, always directing and choreographing dances, events, and shows. At 16 I began working for companies in the surf industry, internally torn as it didn’t make sense to pollute the environment that we used daily. My love for nature and injustice took over. I fought development companies and I struggled with a desire to design and aid in materialism. I lived off grid as minimally as possibly for much of my life and became a Doctor of Oriental medicine and Phd in eco-psychology. Ive spent 16years working with patients and healing bodies.

In 2014 while teaching yoga at a friends EcoResort I came across a small plant dye facility, learning of the most beautiful colors that plants make far more stunning than any chemical dye could ever do, I was truly in love. I also discovered new natural fabrics that were exceptionally comfortable. I met a silk specialist and learned the true tradition of silk farming as regenerative part of earth. I was introduced a beautiful seamstress with an organic farm. It all happened within hours. The feeling of being uplifted by forces greater, to surrender while being guided, it was a powerful feeling i’ll never forget, to be aligned in purpose. I make clothing that sparks deep beauty within women to emit happiness, while cleaning up damage to promote a healthier future, I am grateful.

I sailed around the world during that time before I found the dye and materials. I was with an Italian, French and Spanish man and a Danish woman, during the long nights on watch staring at the stars, I started dreaming up designs, it flooded my heart, I really love fashion, everyone on boat called me AUMBRA, Amber was more difficult to pronounce, but I loved it, the name for the future line was created there at sea under the stars.

As a healthcare Practitioner, I hope to help people wean off of wearing plastic, and to stop polluting the ocean and soil with chemical dyes. When we wear nature, we change our frequency, we become healthier, our skin is a very large organ, what we put on it goes directly into our muscles and blood. Wearing AUMBRA is plant medicine, life can be so much more beautifully experienced than we are used to, a true heaven on Earth.

I have worked with artisans and tribes in Indonesia, Mexico and Polynesia. If the land was less expensive in the US we could produce here in Hawaii, if anyone wants to help we are open to a collaboration.
